Kindergarten

Up Up and Play’s Kindergarten tuition is an affordable single yearly fee of $8,000. This is a full day program running from 9am-3pm with an option of before and after school. The school year is from August 30, 2016 through June 16, 2017. We have vacation weeks during December, February and April. There is an option of camp weeks during school and summer vacations. A yearly calendar will be sent home at the start of the school year.

Up Up and Play’s Kindergarten program offers a small class size with one or two experienced teachers. This allows for a great deal of one on one attention and each child is able to progress at their own pace. We take great pride in modeling cooperation, honesty, and respect. Children at Up Up and Play Academy learn these values as well as responsibility, sharing and caring for the environment.

The classroom will be designed to include Montessori center base learning including Practical life, Sensorial, Math, Science, Language, Sensory and Technology. Our curriculum will include The Primary Phonics program, Sight Word Tales, Every Day Mathematics and The Second Step Program.

Below are examples of some of the different activities/concepts we work on throughout the Kindergarten year.

Language Arts: word banks/ sight words, pocket chart activities, class made books, journals, computers, letter recognition, letter sounds, reading comprehension, rhyming, letter poems & songs, days of the week and months of the year. Students will take turns taking home a Letter bag and return it to school to share with the class.

Math, Science & Social Studies: Calendar, counting and recognizing numbers 1-100, math and pattern sets such as tangrams, estimation, measurement, graphing, predicting. Place value, magnets, primary and secondary colors, mascot habitat study (the class votes on a mascot and studies the animal & its habit). Environmental learning will be conducted outside on a weekly basis as we feel learning through nature is an important part of development. Students will take turns taking home an estimation jar and returning it to school for classmates to estimate the number of items in the jar.

Art, music & movement, fine and gross motor are also a large part of our program. Students will study different artist and illustrators, creating artwork using similar techniques.

We offer monthly specials for students to participate in

Music, a music instructor will come to the program twice per month for music & movement class. This is included into your yearly tuition.
Tumblebus comes to the school twice per month; this is a school bus that has been turned into a gym inside. You may choose to have your child enroll in Tumblebus for $10 per session.
Shrewsbury Public Library, a librarian comes into the classroom twice per month to delivers books to the class which coincide with classroom themes. Students will also learn the difference between fiction and nonfiction.
During the school year we will also have family events and outside resources that will be added to the monthly classroom calendar. These may include an animal reptile show; visit from the dentist and Big Joe the Story Teller.
